This the new home page for the Astronomical Society of Long Island's new website. It is presently under construction.

The Astronomical Society of Long Island is one of the most active groups in the New York Metropolitan Area. We are a group of dedicated amateur astronomers and telescope makers with a passion for our hobby, and a willingness to share our knowledge and excitement of the hobby with others, both experienced, and those who may have just discovered the hobby.

The club meets every Wednesday night at 8:30 PM at the Vanderbilt Planetarium , in Centerport, New York. We welcome new visitors, you do not need to own a telescope, and there is no requirement to join the club in order to attend meetings. Come join us, to ask questions, to benefit from our collective experience, and to explore the wonders of the night sky.

WEEKLY PROGRAMS FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY:

February 3 - Book Night - by You,The Members. Bring your latest reads, to show, to review, to rave about, rant about, and bring other astronomy books that you no longer need, and would like to sell or trade, or give away.

Febuary 10 - Lunar Mythology - by Dr. Sean Tavelia, SUNY Suffolk Community College. Who do you know named Cynthia, Diana, or Selene, and how did we ever get a moon made of green cheese? Huh?

February 17 - Observing Night - You should bring your own telescopes and binoculars. If you don't have any, then look through the telescopes of our members. This is a great night for beginners to get some help from the old-timers, too. In the event skies do not permit observing, an alternate program will be presented at the planetarium.

February 24 - The Winter Star Party - The Winter Star Party is held near Key West, Florida, and amateurs bring their telescopes from all over the country to view the heavens in the warmth of a Florida winter. The Florida skies are known for their excellent "seeing." This will be a Roundup by ASLI members who went in February. Of course, they get to see stuff we never see ‘round these parts, so it might be a fair exchange.
