Club Activities

Cradle of Aviation Museum, Garden City

At the end of March a number of ASLI club members gathered at the Cradle of Aviation in Garden City, NY for a guided tour of the facility.  The guides covered everything from the beginning of flight in hot air balloons, through WWII aircraft, to Sputnik, the LEM and the moon landing.  And much of all this history took place on Long Island, of course.                                                     Photograph Copyright © 2011 Marty Stone

For one of our meetings in January 2012, we met at Spectrum Thin Films, an optical coating company owned by Tony Pirera, standing at left in this photograph.  He gave us all a tour of the plant, showing us all the coating machines and equipment used for applying high-tech optical coatings, and described the process as well.  He also fed us cookies and desserts and munchies!  Photograph Copyright © 2012 Ken Spencer.
